I have gotten 6 fillings done in the last month and I am going to get new glasses. I wear contacts 99% of the time so my old glasses filled this role fine. However, if I don’t use this $ I lose it.

That is many fillings

I’m so glad I don’t have an FSA. My Mom has an FSA and the idea of money you putting into it being lost at the end of year just reeks of bullshit.

I HATE those types of accounts. It’s utter bullshit that you can’t keep YOUR money, and that you either have too much or not enough. How the Fuck is one supposed to know a year before hand how healthy/sick one will be over that year?
This is why we can’t have nice things, like a competent, working healthcare system. You know, just like the rest of the developed world.
sigh...

Yeah, dental health hasn’t been high on the radar in the past. Finally went to a dentist and they just couldn’t wait to repair my neglect. I also got a crown.

It’s great if you can use it and if everything had worked out I would have used it all.

I can roll over $500. I’ve got $1000 left. The optometrist told me they could sell me half a dozen pairs of glasses hahaha!

I just think the HSA does everything the FSA does, and you don’t need doctor approval nor do you ever lose your money.
The FSA just seems like another way to screw the employee over.

Right, because anyone actually needs 6 pairs of specs. You should be able to use YOUR money for something that YOU need it for. And if you’re healthy enough not to need it one year, you should be able to keep YOUR money until you need it.

How is it bullshit? It’s pre-tax, what is so bad about that? You can set it up for a low amount, worst case you’re forced into spending money that you wouldn’t have had otherwise. I usually just get a new pair of shades if I have anything left over.

This is the first year my wife and I haven’t had an FSA and it’s the first year that we’ve actually gotten behind on our medical bills. Between regular doctor visits, dental stuff, and the fact that we need new glasses soon, we’ll use all $2500 we put in it next year.

I usually spring for a fancy pair of sunglasses when I have money left over. I used all mine on dental work this year:(

I’ve never owned a pair of prescription sunglasses. I might have to change that.

It’s bullshit because you lose your money for no reason. How is it not bullshit? Compare it to an HSA and tell me an FSA isn’t a crock of shit in every way. I never lose the money I put into an HSA unless I spend it.

My company offers an HSA that carries over and they contribute. It's awesome to not have the use it or lose it

Half dozen...sheesh, one pair of glasses with decent frames is usually $400 for me. :(

They’re stupid expensive, so not a bad option when you have a bunch of money that has to be used.

HSA is the way to go, but only because its more flexible. FSA is still plenty beneficial if you know how to plan ahead.

I feel ya bud. I was no better. I’ve always had this fear of dentist up until I found a dentist I actually liked. I went a ten year stint and a 5 year stint after that without going to the dentist.
Now that I found a good one I go MUCH more often. Luckily those years didn’t do too much damage. 4 cavities in the 10 years and 3 cavities in the following 5 years. Nothing else. Now everything is up to date and I just have another 14 months or so with the braces.
I’ll have a million dollar smile before you know it.

Yeah, I’m all up to date now. Now I just need to keep it up.

My insurance is pretty good I got nice frames and good lenses and a pair of prescription sunglasses for under $500.

That is nice!

I spent just under $500 on a pair of glasses and sunglasses so mission accomplished.

Mine is alright but I need coke bottle lenses so it costs a small fortune to lighten them up to wearable glasses. Prescription sunglasses are also pretty much out, unfortunately. Glad you got some you like!

My prescription is a -7 which seemed to impress the ladies working there. Without the special ploycarbonite lenses and and special grinding techniques they’d be half an inch thick at the edges.
